Nancy O'Dell began her broadcast career as an anchor and reporter for WPDE-TV located in Myrtle Beach South Carolina. She later became a morning news anchor as well as crime reporter for WCBD TV. While in Charleston O'Dell's stories on the lenient police approach to DUI cases led to an State Law Enforcement Division investigation which resulted in the state authorities re-issuing the strictest guidelines regarding these instances. In the year 2000, Associated Press awarded Ms. O'Dell with the Best Report of the year award for every aspect of South Carolina media. O'Dell's work in Charleston was the reason she joined as a co-anchor, reporter as well as NBC's Miami WTVJ-TV. Prior to she joined Access Hollywood she was a weekday co-anchor as well as the NBC weekend co-anchor.
